Adam & Eve, 2007, mosaic clay, re-used, stained and vitreous glass, 4 x 4 in.
Adam and Eve (Aplectrum hyemale) is endangered in CT, MA, NJ, NY, PA and VT, due to habitat decline. In the orchid family, a glue can be made from the tubers.
Mosaic Clay is a unique formula that Hillary adapted from the original formula of Professor Turker Ozdogan. Glass and ceramic tesserae are fused into the clay, with no adhesive or grout. Hillary strives for a low carbon footprint in the process by once-firing the clay, using salvaged glass, and getting raw materials from local sources.
